This course is designed to develop an awareness of self-concept, confidentiality, and ethics as they relate to interactions with others. Learners will explore self-awareness by discovering and analyzing personal values, beliefs, and biases. A focus is placed on ethical and professional boundaries to establish professional standards of practice.

Course Structure

  • Online training monitored by a facilitator
  • 15 hours (to be completed by May 22, 2026)
  • Self-paced, independent study (learning materials are presented online accompanied by engaging activities, such as reflections)

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course Child & Youth Community-Based Care: Professional Practice, the learner will earn a microcredential. A visual representation of the microcredential is issued to the learner as a digital badge. The learner can share the digital badge on a resume, LinkedIn profile, e-portfolio, or other digital network allowing employers to see what the learner can do as it shows evidence of the assessed competencies. 


Admission Requirements

  • Minimum of three months (or 120 hours) of volunteer or work experience in the human services or social services field – a letter confirming proof of experience is required

OR

  • A letter of intent that outlines interest in the Child and Youth Care Worker microcredentials. This letter will outline learners’ interests, strengths, and experiences that relate to the human services or social services field.

Note: If the learner has prior knowledge that is equivalent to some or all of the competencies for this microcredential, they may be a good candidate for Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). See details on the program page.

Helpful Information for Career Planning:
A High School Diploma, Adult High School Diploma, or GED is not necessary for admission to this microcredential series. However, learners should be aware that these credentials are commonly required for employment within Child and Youth Community-Based Care
